Sewage System Replacement for an Australian Defence Department

malcolm-thompson-pumps-raaf-base-case-study3The Malcolm Thompson Pumps team was asked to replace two sewage pump systems for an Australian Defence Department in NSW.

The Project

This Defence Department site is one of Australia’s oldest sites and also one of the country’s busiest.
When the plumbers at Emavale Pty Ltd were called out to inspect two sewage pump systems that were showing their age, they quickly got in touch with the Sydney team at Malcolm Thompson Pumps to assess and replace both systems. The previous pump installations dated back to 2002, and one pump was no longer functioning at all. Time was of the essence to keep the base operating smoothly, so our team was asked to provide replacement systems for these two pumps within a quick time frame.

The Solution

The MTP team was initially asked to provide a quote for two new units that were similar to the systems that were already in place, however on closer inspection we felt that an improved solution could be developed to provide maximum efficiency for the older structure. We requoted for two Grundfos SE1.100.150.75.4.50B units with dry mounts, plus custom designed discharge pipework to suit the particular design of the property. Our specialists were able to recommend a pump station that would improve sewage discharge and minimise power consumption. Another key consideration was being able to access spare parts easily and cost-effectively when needed. Once a bespoke system had been designed and approved for the property incorporating products from the leading brands we supply, our installation team set to work replacing the two units and custom pipework within an efficient turnaround.

The Results

MTP’s client was highly satisfied with the outcome of improved efficiency and the considered custom design. This carefully tailored solution resulted in a robust and durable sewage system with the convenience of accessibility to spare parts as needed; both aspects being critical towards achieving excellent efficiency over the long term when paired with regular maintenance. Thanks to our extensive supply of leading brands and our efficient turnaround, we were able to have the systems up and running again with consistent and clear communication. It was a solution that simply could not have been achieved without the industry experience and custom design expertise that our MTP personnel are able to offer.
